An explanation of what an EA print is:
In fine art printmaking, it is customary for each edition to include a small number of additional prints. These are marked as AP (Artist’s Proof), EA (épreuve d’artiste), or BAT (bon à tirer). Originally, these proofs were reserved for the artist or the printer, but today they are often sold alongside the regular edition.
Collectors appreciate the rarity of an Artist’s Proof, even though there is no artistic or technical difference between the standard edition and the AP prints.
If a lithograph or engraving is numbered 6/20, it simply means that the print is number 6 out of a total edition of 20. The numbering does not indicate the order in which the prints were pulled. Thus, 1/20 is not necessarily the first or finest print—only the first one in the sequence when the artist signed the edition.
The motivic world of Cathrine Raben Davidsen is populated with human figures, animals and plants. In the paintings, one can glimpse human faces and bodies emerging from the saturated colour field surfaces. In the drawings and prints, one encounters shadowy images of floating bodies, owls, deer, whales, and jellyfish move around in fluid, formless spaces, seemingly in constant flux - in a state of dissolution towards a new dimension. By portraying this mix of living organisms inside a fluid space, Raben Davidsen explores the organic synthesis of humans, animals and the cosmos.
