Danish artist Cathrine Raben Davidsen / CRD studio and founder of Aiayu Maria Heilmann have been following each other’s work for over a decade. They both share an interest in refining materials and creating beautiful products. Over the years they have admired each other’s approaches and aesthetics and have been waiting for the perfect time and product to collaborate on. And this time is now!
Aiayu and Cathrine Raben Davidsen have come together to launch a limited-edition collection of lampshades, to be paired with Cathrine’s iconic unique ceramic lamps.
Each lampshade is made from leftover fabric from the Aiayu archive and gives new life to the material, while at the same time being transformed into a textile work of art.
Through this collaboration, we bring new life to our Aiayu fabric demonstrating a new way of upcycling and elevating existing materials. Since we are very selective about where our materials come from and how they are grown and processed, we recognize their value and inherent qualities. Our wish is to use every meter of leftover fabric to avoid any waste.
Each lampshade is an exclusive one-of-a-kind art piece made from up-cycled Aiayu materials, organic cotton, and llama wool made in perfect symbiosis with Cathrine’s sculptural lamps. The handmade stoneware lamps made of glazed stoneware, combine fine art and functionality. Every lamp is handmade and unique and has been fired at very high temperatures, using several glaze firings and each part has been modeled and glazed by Cathrine Raben Davidsen at her ceramic studio in Copenhagen.
Cathrine Raben Davidsen is in addition to her paintings and drawings, also recognized for her ceramics and today works with some of the most prestigious international design galleries, which have a focus on collectible design. Drawing inspiration from history, mythology, and personal memory, her highly intimate pieces are marked by their strong narratives, vibrant use of color and delicate craftsmanship.
Aiayu is rooted in a love for nature’s materials and has a materials-first philosophy.
Aiayu utilizes and refines materials to create beautiful products for the wardrobe and home in a responsible way. The brand values using even the smallest pieces of materials to make something beautiful out of them in a zero-waste manner.
Maria Høgh Heilmann and Cathrine Raben Davidsen will be at the Aiayu Store in Frederiksberg (Gammel Kongevej 80, 1650 Frederiksberg) on June 7th between 16:00-18:00 and Line Bak will serve food and tea during that time.
